Bathroom and Kitchen Resurfacing FAQ

  • With proper care and cleaning, your new surface can look as good as new for 10 + years! We will provide a care & warranty info packet upon arrival to your home on the date of service. We provide a 5 year limited warranty, and recommend that our guidelines are followed to ensure the longevity of your surface.

  • Care and cleaning is easy! We recommend cleaning with a gentle soap, such as Dawn dish soap and a microfiber cloth or soft sponge. Our warranty does not cover any wear as a result of using abrasive cleaners such as Ajax or Comet, bleach, magic erasers and abrasive sponges. Warranty also does not cover damage due to use of suction cups (such as on soap holders and bath mats). Please use tension rod bath shelving and weighted bath mats as an alternative. Detailed care, cleaning, and warranty information is given to every client on the day of their appointment.

  • Due to the ever-fluctuating costs of supplies and materials, all quotes we provide for Residential or Commercial projects are valid for 30 days.

  • The scope of the project and condition of each item will dictate how long the process and overall job will take. A standard tub can take anywhere from 3-6 hours depending on whether or not it needs to be stripped and/or repaired prior to spraying. A shower stall can take anywhere from 4-8 hours depending on the condition, size and what product we are using to resurface it. For the most part, a single item resurfacing project can be done in one day. Larger makeover projects can take a few days depending on project scope and if the home is vacant or occupied. Overall, project length will be much less time, mess and money than it would be if the rooms were being completely torn apart and rehabbed.

  • Just about any type of material you will find in a home can be resurfaced - porcelain, ceramic, sealed stone, cultured marble, laminate (Formica), solid surfaces (Corian), acrylic, fiberglass, wood, even stainless steel. That's why we can do any size bathroom or kitchen projects... from a single shower pan to a complete room makeover!

  • Dry time before resuming normal use is 12 hours; however, times may differ slightly depending on certain conditions such as temperature and/or humidity level in the home.

  • Just about any type of damage can be repaired, the ones that are really required are the chips and corroded areas that are down to any cast iron or steel material, those should not just be coated over. Dingy or discolored surfaces will be completely transformed and are not considered repairs.

  • Our standard glaze color is Pure White, but we can order any custom color you wish for a nominal fee - special orders will affect how soon the job can be scheduled. Our liquid stone comes in just over 30 color patterns, with either a satin or semi-gloss finish for you to choose from. Cabinet coatings are available in any sheen and color desired - using the Sherwin Williams color chart is the largest and easiest to match for color selection.

  • While most people call refinishing products paint, our products are different and are not meant to be brushed or rolled on like paint. The products we use are proprietary, were developed for these applications, and are not available to the general public in stores. They have specific properties and formulations that are only to be used by a professionally trained technician who has the correct spray equipment and skill to achieve professional results.

  • Peeling or flaking of a refinished surface can happen from a number of things...shortcuts may have been taken to speed up the process and/or keep costs low - important preparation steps skipped, or low quality products or products not meant for that application type may have been used; or perhaps they did not explain the proper care and cleaning practices that need to be followed for a resurfaced finish. We stand behind our work and the products we use and do everything we can to ensure our customers are educated on the simple care and cleaning that will be needed going forward.

  • Bathtub liners are plastic covers that are fitted over old or damaged bathtubs. Their cost is usually double the price of resurfacing and can take up to 3 to 4 weeks from ordering to installation. The liners oftentimes crack or leak and create mold and mildew problems, resulting in very expensive removal, repair and installation of a new fixture.

  • Here again, expertise and proper equipment is very important. Yes, as with any type of household or commercial type chemical, there is an odor, but we use a heavy duty professional exhaust system that pulls odors from your home through the nearest window, as well as odor reduction additives to our glaze mixture. This exhaust system is on while we are working on your fixture, and for a few minutes after we are finished. There may be some lingering odors when we leave, but they typically dissipate by the time you retire for the evening. We recommend leaving the exhaust fan on for the evening and the door to the room closed during the dry time recommended.

  • It will be slippery when wet and you can use a bath mat, but ONLY a non-suction mat made for resurfaced tubs or shower floors. As an alternative, we do offer a non-slip traction treatment for an additional fee that is applied during the resurfacing process. We highly recommend it when small children or elderly in particular will be using the the tub or shower. Let us know if this is something you would like us to add.

  • DIY kits typically consist of a 2 part epoxy coating that is rather difficult to apply with a brush or roller, takes up to 5 days to dry and requires a respirator to use because of the caustic fumes. We've seen time and again that they tend to yellow shortly after application and do not last more than a few months in most cases. DIY kit jobs tend to have a rough, uneven, amateur look. The only way to achieve the lasting, even, glossy finish desired is with the correct type of product and necessary professional equipment that only a properly trained and skilled technician can provide. Even HGTV and the Property Brothers have given a list of certain types of home improvements that are better left to the professionals, and resurfacing was one of them!

Why Perma-Glaze® of Texas?

Perma-Glaze® is one of the most established and respected names in the bathtub resurfacing industry. Our glaze was developed specifically for this purpose, it is not an epoxy or automotive finish.  It is available only to highly trained technicians.

  • Beware of "cheap" pricing. The only way to cut pricing is to use cheaper materials, and/or leave out some of the process. We don't cut corners to save time, and we will never skimp on quality primers, topcoats, or masking materials. Some companies do what they call "apartment quality" work...we only do "high quality" work, whether at an apartment, residential home or commercial location.

  • Our glaze does not contain poly-isocyanates, which can be harmful to the technician, and require the use of an air-fed respirator; still, they are chemicals so although we use every precaution to keep odors contained and exhausted, if you are pregnant or have any type of health problems, you may choose to leave the house while and for a couple hours after spraying.

  • While we use venting machines and fans, there is some odor, most of which will be gone within a few hours after the technician leaves.

  • Our glaze is a "high-build" product, meaning each coat blends with the prior layer resulting in one thick layer, as opposed to a few thin layers on top of each other. Note that normal use can resume after a 12-24 hour dry time but the glaze will continue to cure and reach its total hardness after about 30 days, which is why surface dust will typically work itself out with 30 days of normal use and cleaning.

  • Others may build thickness with primer, because it's cheaper. We build thickness with glaze to give you a superior finish.

  • Our glaze has superior luster and does not require additional buffing or waxing. Some refinishers need to come back to "buff out" your tub, and some recommend you actually wax your tub every 6 months with an automotive wax. This is not necessary with our glaze.

  • We respect your property. Utmost care is taken to protect your walls, floors, counters, etc. We use the highest quality masking tape and paper, and we "go the extra mile" to prevent spray from landing where it shouldn't.

  • We don't rush it...some refinishers force their employees to get the job done as quickly as possible because they pay them by the hour. We take enough time to make sure our job is done right.

In closing let us just say, we are a local, small business, not a large conglomerate hiring and firing thousands of employees across the country every day. We treat every client as if they are family and every home as if it were our own; we take pride in what we do and stand behind our work; we strive to give every person we work with a great experience and the most beautifully completed updates to their home so they will want to rave to their neighbors, family and friends about the work they've had done and tell them, "Don't replace it, Perma-Glaze it!"
