Yes, Bathtub Resurfacing Can Increase the Value of Your Home

Fiberglass bathtub refinishing and countertop resurfacing

Think about all the late night scrolling through Zillow and Realtor.com you’ve done. You see a reasonably priced home in a great neighborhood, but then when you swipe through the photos and finally see the bathroom… there’s chips in the bathtub, the grout is dirty, and the vanity has that swirly brown fake marble right out of the 80’s. You click over to the next home without looking at any more photos, because you know you would never be up to a bathroom remodel as soon as you move into a new home.

Trends in the housing market show definitively that homes which are move-in ready sell the fastest, because buyers want a quick and painless housing transition that won’t drain their bank accounts. Bathrooms are a key area of the home – it’s the room you go into to relax, get clean, and get ready to present yourself to the world for the day. You don’t get the feeling of cleanliness and relaxation in a room that’s dirty, outdated, and in need of an update.

We also know that when you’re considering the daunting task of selling your home, the last thing you want to do is pour a ton of time and energy into a remodeling project that will take months to complete, and tens of thousands of dollars out of your bank account. This is where resurfacing your bathtub (or shower, or tile, or countertop) comes in.

Just this week, we completed a project for a client who had a fiberglass bathtub and surround unit that he had dropped a tool in and created a hole in the tub. He filled the hole with epoxy as a quick fix but knew that as he got closer to selling the home, he needed a solution to make the shower more appealing to buyers. Before he considered resurfacing, he gathered quotes from three separate companies to remove the fiberglass unit and install a new bathtub and tile surround with estimates for this project ranging from $13,000 to $18,000, and project timelines up to 3 weeks. Even the lowest estimate was well out of our client’s budget, and he couldn’t manage to have one of two bathrooms out of service for an extended period with six kids and two adults in the home who need to shower and use the toilet every day.

We were able to repair the damage on the bottom of the tub and resurface the entire tub & shower unit in Pure White glaze, as well as resurface an outdated beige vanity top in our liquid stone color Muir Woods for $1,200 in only two days! With a 10-year warranty that guarantees against peeling and yellowing, we know that resurfacing is the perfect solution for this family by not only saving them money but providing a product that will stand up to the wear and tear of multiple teenagers using the shower every day. When the family is ready to put their home on the market, we’re confident the shower will still look and perform beautifully for the next homeowners.
